Hundreds of photographs taken by U.S. army photographers in the China-Burma-India combat theater of WWII were on display in April in Taipei in a rare exhibition that brought some closure to many Chinese Nationalist army soldiers who fought off the occupying Japanese but were quickly forgotten after the country fell to communist rule.

US government scientists who monitor carbon dioxide in the atmosphere from Hawaii said on 10 May 2013 that the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere is the highest it has been in millions of years. The amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has steadily risen from 317 parts per million in 1958, when measurements began, to 400, according to the CO2 monitoring programme at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Scientists believe the last time CO2 levels were at the 400 parts per million level was two to four million years ago.
